Dear Red Cross Guy

September 13th, 2011

Thank you for talking to me tonight, even if your main goal was to get me to sign up for a monthly donation. I was happy when you said you were in a band, that you made music. I’m sorry your guitar was stolen. I’m sorry you have to be a robot in this world to do the things you do. I’m sorry I said no.

You made me feel like a person, as strange as that sounds. A little less apathetic, even if it’s something I have grown accustom to. Talking on the sidewalk made me feel worthwhile, like I had something important to say. I felt pretty. A little more alive.

You’ll probably never read this, but thanks. Even if I didn’t give you the donation, you gave me something in turn.

I only hope you were sincere.

Although, I guess I can always pretend.

You are the most amazingly odd person that I know. And that is a good thing

  2. Hi! I work at the Red Cross in Chicago in wanted to say thank YOU NW Indiana girl in Chicago for taking time out of your day to chat with us and share your experience. It made us feel good. This is not always an easy job and we are so grateful when people are gracious and are able to spare a few minutes of their busy lives to talk with us about what we do.
