How to make homemade cheese.
July 27th, 2009
I wanted to try something I’ve never done before, something new and exciting and in the vein of cooking. I’ve tired of making cakes. Cookies. Even different curries (and boy do I love curry). After watching this video, I told myself, “I want to make cheese.”
And so I did. The experience was documented, sans a tripod. I should really invest in one of those. They seem super handy.
What you need to make your own cheese:
- 1 quart whole milk
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tsp lemon juice or white vinegar
- 3/4 tsp salt
- cheesecloth
The result? It was good. A little too salty for me, so the next time around I will use a lighter hand. I’d love to make a chipotle cheese or an herb cheese with lots of basil. What do you guys think?

That is some tasty cheese. You constantly amaze me with your pro-activeness and talent. Keep it up, I’m hungry!
Looks delicious! We watched the video after you posted it.
Do you know how to make flavored cheeses? Anne and I want to embark down the cheddary path.
Herb cheese! Herb cheese!
This was cool to watch. They never show stuff like this on Food Network. Now I want to try to make cheese for myself. Stun my family and friends.
