Northwest Indiana girl enjoying the Taste of Chicago – Day 141
June 29th, 2010
Rahsaan and I ran away to Chicago this afternoon to go to the Taste. Eventually we met up with Chris which is awesome because I really miss Chris and wish quite often she still lived in Northwest Indiana. I had never gone to the Taste before, so I’m glad to have went once in my life. It was an experience. Some good food, a beautiful, warm day and crazy street performers made for quite the enjoyable outing. My feet hurt though, a lot, and I think I’m a little dehydrated (drinking water as I write this) but it’s easy to look over those things.
We took the South Shore into the city which is fine by me. I wasn’t really looking forward to battling Taste of Chicago traffic and parking anyhow. I was stoked when our train pulled up. I had never ridden one of the newish trains before, the swank, double-decker ones. Inside on the top floor it looked a little cramped, so we stayed on the main level, but it nevertheless was cool. I can imagine the view up there. I always enjoy looking out a train window, but to look out a train window fifteen feet up must be something else. Maybe next time.
Some of the highlights from today include screaming, “YES!” really loud when I thought a chef at a demonstration was going to give me food, but then him shooting me down last minute (Rahsaan loved that), some moron getting pulled over by a cop on a four-wheeler, Garrett’s mix popcorn (so good, but I hate how the cheese turns your fingers orange), hugging Chris because I missed her, eating two helpings of pralines and cream, semi-enjoying a subpar hotlink, a hot dog eating contest, walking along the lakefront, and not having to go to work.
I would like to thank the Taste for the good times!
It’s funny, the older I get, the more I love visiting the city of Chicago. Even though I keep finding excuses to do something new and exciting, the city is still quite mysterious to me. I’ve had a lot of people lately ask, “Why don’t you just move out here?” but I don’t know if the city is for me. Too busy and I worry its charm may wear off after awhile once my life is submerged by cityness.
Have any of you lived in Chicago? For how long? Did you like it?
Things to consider, always. I have to remember that life is an adventure and shouldn’t be spent dwelling on what ifs and should haves.

Very entertaining video! Where can I download an mp3 of your Taste of Chicago song? ;)
You should sing in more of your videos, Nichole! :)
I don’t think the world is ready for my brand of bad singing!
The live show is worse
Rahsaan, you need to shut your mouth!
