As a birthday gift to myself, I went thrifting today. Why not on my birthday? Well, Unique Thrift Store in Merrillville, off 61st Ave and Broadway, has everything in the store half off on Mondays. Nearly everything I got today I got from Unique. A couple pieces were picked up from Village Discount Outlet in Hammond off Kennedy Ave.

I always have such amazing luck when I shop at Unique. I’ve been thrifting since high school, so I’ve had a lot of practice at it. I know what to look for and how to skim racks. Maybe thrifting is in my blood, who knows!?

As I was driving down 80/94, I remembered when we kids were in school, my mother had always given us an ultimatum when it came time to buy new clothes for the school year.

“You can either have a few new things or take the money and go to the resale store and get a lot of used things.”

My sister and I always went to the resale store because we were greedy (yet so very resourceful!) and wanted more bang for our buck. I have no idea what my brother chose to do, but for us girls $50 equaled a lot of used clothes. It was always fun thrifting with my mom and sister, because we knew that the things we would find, no one else in the school would have them. There was a kind of gleeful arrogance in that. We were trendy in our own, low-parental-budget sort of way. Screw buying new!

Today’s video features a lot of dancing in my new clothes. I spent about $60 on those 16 outfits featured in the video. There were a couple things that I already owned, mainly all the black shoes, the belts and one skirt in which I finally found a red top for. Everything else was purchased today.

Enjoy my bad dancing!

Feedback is love.

I love Unique. I did a LOT of thrifting there when Crossroads Cinema was still up there. I haven’t been thrifting in a while.

    • We should meet up sometime and go thrifting! I love going on Monday’s because it’s half-price day. Just let me know when you would want to go. We haven’t seen each other in YEARS!

  3. OMG those clothes are CUTE! nice work. :D

    • Glad you approve! If there comes a day where we ever meet up *hint hint* we should go thrifting. What is Aussie thrifting like? :D

  4. I am not sure which is more awesome. The fact that the theme from Carmen San Diego was being played or that you couldn’t break the cash that I gave you. That song that was playing was pretty awesome and what you lacked in dancing skill, the spirit of the dance almost made up for it.

  5. Whoa, those clothes look awesome! Makes me want to go look for some second hand and re sale clothes! (Oh, and lovely dancing, my darling! <3)
