Guilty, locked behind a fence... or something along those lines.

In typical Nichole fashion, I’ve been feeling guilty about not going to the gym these past couple weeks. Middle of the day (around lunchtime) was my time to work out. I was awake enough from the morning, but not yet tired from the evening. It was a great balance. However, since starting my on-site web gig, working out hasn’t really been working out. (Nice play on words there!) I’m pretty far from the gym to go during my lunchtime, and by the time I get off work at 5, I’m really not all that motivated to head downtown to exhaust myself on the elliptical.

Not sure why this makes me feel guilty though. It’s not like I promised anyone I would always go to the gym, but still I have this dread sitting in my stomach. So, to appease the side of me that self-condemns, I’ve been forcing myself to lift weights, do squats and a smidgen of yoga in the evening at home. Today I went for a half-hour jog immediately after work. My legs are sore, but the park was nice.

Maybe it’s that I don’t want to give up this good habit. I’ve been working out regularly for the past four years; to stop now would be to stop living in a way. Kind of. Not really, but I like how important it sounds.

I have a bike. I need put air in the tires and use it.

Maybe I have ulterior motives I don’t quite know about yet. That surely would make my life a hell of a lot more interesting.

  1. Good for you!

I did the same and eventually canceled the gym membership. They told me that I shouldn’t expect to lose weight so quickly; assuming me being large and in charge and not losing it fast enough was the reason I chose to cancel (it wasn’t).

Even though I was free to use the gym the rest of the month, you couldn’t force me to use it. Biking, pilates, chasing children, I could do these things for free. (BTW, I lost much more without the gym than I ever did with it.)

    • They actually said that to you? Wow.

What I really liked about going to the gym was going with other people. I may switch to Anytime Fitness, since a lot of people I know go there, or just work out at home, which I have been doing. I guess we shall see!

      Free is definitely best.
