Addicted to Let’s Plays.

September 26th, 2009

People come home anticipating their favorite television shows. I’ve had friends who were absolutely insane for Lost and Heroes. I don’t know if those shows are even on anymore (since I don’t have television), but even if they aren’t, there are still shows that people make time for once or twice a week, I’m sure.

And just like how people anticipate TV shows, there are a few things I make sure to watch when I get home from work. Most of them are things called Let’s Plays. The one I am currently following is HCBailly’s Let’s Play of Illusion of Gaia.

I remember renting that game in middle school. It was during parent-teacher conference week, and we had a series of half-days… or something like that. My brother and I cleared the game in a short period of time, but I remember it being quite enjoyable. Watching a Let’s Play of it now, about 15 years later, goes far beyond the realm of hilarious. Bad plot with a great LPer makes for a very enjoyable 11 minutes of my day, for sure.

To add a couple more points into my dorkiness score, I’ve also been watching a completed Let’s Play of Valkyrie Profile, one of the many games I have sitting on my shelf that I have never finished. This game… it’s hard. So very hard. I remember starting it up at least  five or six times and never once finishing it, much like I did with Vagrant Story. I eventually completed the latter a couple years ago, so I decided to give the former another go thanks to crimeinpartner, who makes the game look ridiculously easy.

How many times has he played it… I wonder. He knows everything.

So yes, my weekend will be filled with an old game that is seriously kicking my ass. Case in point: the Salerno Academy. It would have been easier if it were filled with cookies instead of immense fail.

Ah well.

Feedback is love.

  1. *gasps* You never finished Valkyrie Profile?! So what’s the furthest you got in it? I admit it is hard…I tried playing it a year ago, and though I got far, I had to give up on a boss….I couldn’t beat him and got so frustrated!

  2. Oh to clarify, I passed VP when it first came out…..but tried replaying it a year ago, and it was too hard for me! *blush*

I believe I have never gotten past chapter 5… and this was back before how I knew to get the A ending.

After watching this guy do his run-through, I decided to give it a go on Hard Mode. Now that I know what I’m doing, I think I’ve got it made. It’s just frustrating in parts… like the Salerno Academy for example. I’m not looking forward to the Clockwork Mansion at all.

  4. Some of the places only exist in the hard version…at least I think…Good luck! *cheers you on.*
