A good day for PHP and music.
January 11th, 2010
Firstly, I want to give a big THANKS to everyone who came rushing to my aid in regards to the PHP question I had: Ben, Rich S., Rich O. and Karl. In the end, it was Rich O. who helped me over IM to achieve exactly what I wanted with my new wordpress theme. (Man, I know too many people named Rich). It’s good to know I have so many programmer friends.
PHP is still really foreign-looking to me. I’m starting to understand little bits and pieces, albeit the digestion of them is slow-going. It reminds me of when I was first starting to decipher HTML way back when. It was a lot for my seventeen-year-old mind to handle, but with practice I eventually got it. CSS was the same way. I will dominate. I will conquer all!
I know PHP is an entirely different beast, but I’m hoping that with a little bit of practice each day, I will be able to get the hang of it soon. Simple things. I don’t want to build a CMS or anything crazy like that. I’m not down with pipe dreams. Just simple, if/else statements like I needed today to make my life a little easier, that’s all I’m asking.
On the music side, I pointed a fellow tweep and musician extraordinaire—the_dna_project—towards the magic of Jamendo, a site where artists who operate under Creative Commons post their work for people to download legally. It’s another place for him to house his albums, and a great way to get some exposure within the world of music. My brother would be so proud; he was the one who turned me on to Jamendo in the first place.
All in all, it was a good day today. Very good. I was helped and in turn I helped another… and I think that’s what life is all about.

Glad I can help. It will all snap into place one day, PHP is one of the easier languages to pickup.
I hope so. I want to learn a little more each day. Who knows what crazy things I’ll be creating when I understand PHP a little better!
