This morning I drove to Tracy’s house to buy a painting.

A few months ago, I had seen her work on a website and fell in love. I didn’t even know she painted. I didn’t know a lot of things about Tracy then. I still don’t. She’s an enigma, a very cool woman. I hope, now that we’re both separated from work, I can learn more about her. I think we’re both better off without the office. Maybe it will allow Tracy to work more on her art for awhile.

The painting I bought today, I loved when I first saw it on the website. Today when I curled up in front of the stack of paintings she had, I asked, “Where was that painting I liked?” She remembered and found it and handed it over.

Looking at it now, I can see why it resonated with me. The colors and the three faces, it speaks volumes about who I used to be. A snapshot with paint. It makes me wonder what Tracy was thinking when she moved colors around the canvas. I’m sure it’s a reflection of herself in some ways, but when I first saw it, I could only see a reflection of me. Frightening but more than anything, beautiful.

I worked a little more on the new wordpress theme for this blog. I’m digging it, even if it is getting a little collage-like. It’s still me. I hoard paper after all.

I also made some cash today helping a friend out with his CSS woes. Easy stuff for me, so that meant the cash was pretty easy too. I know he was relieved. It’s good to have pocket money. It will help feed my tea cravings during the week for awhile.

Tomorrow I’m going to repot my plants, since I try to make it an annual thing. Fresh soil makes for happy plants. That and I got a new pot for one of my aloes. It’s not doing too well, and I think it’s because it isn’t rootbound. I have a nice small pot to move it tomorrow.

Happy happy plants!

Feedback is love.

  1. Nice addition to the walls! Always great to help out our fellow artists. Really digging your new wordpress theme, love the paper, keep up the awesome updates. Would like to see some pics of your aloes, always enjoy a good picture post. Anyway, happy designing, writing & gardening!

  2. I think its awesome you bought that painting from Tracy. I think I will be contributing to our local artists too. I already am taking art classes from Marys sister http://www.suzynolan.com/ she give my kids and I an art class every week, course we have not met for a while since our weekends seem so very busy! But I think I wanna see more of Tracy’s paintings too so I can purchase one of hers. Does she have a site Nichole?

My friend Nick has a great article on his blog about collecting art: http://www.gutofart.com/love-at-first-sight.html
My take on Collecting Art – I find it fascinating that a person can take small parts of others (their artwork) and bring it into his or her life and have it eventually become a reflection of his or her soul. If you collect things that truly speak to you – even if it can’t be explained in words – your collection will come to represent you and say more about you than any resume or bio ever could. Hooray for supporting local Artists!
