Where I have been living for the past couple days.

Where I have been living for the past couple days.

As you can see, jinked.net has a brand-spanking new layout, designed with love by yours truly. It wasn’t until the coding started that a little bit of malice began to trickle in one drop at a time. Things escalated with the introduction of Internet Exporer 7 and cross browser checks. You may have seen my tweets about it in the last 24 hours or so. Honestly, I do not get why people use IE: it’s a bad browser. It renders things so crazy, it doesn’t dump its cache properly and it’s outdated. It’s better thanĀ  IE6, don’t get me wrong, but still… it will never be my browser of choice, nor should it be yours.

Still, I see it as my code not being up to snuff. If you code properly, it should work in all browsers. WordPress themes are just unwieldy beasts with lots and lots of nesting styles I have yet to get the hang of. Seriously, you should see my stylesheet. It’s huge, and I write CSS on one line per element styled.

I look at today and yesterday as the beta test for this theme. There is one lingering bug I have to work out (Atom Groom has so graciously offered his assistance) and it’s an IE-only issue. I want to spruce up the comments a little more with some plugin ideas Anne had given to me, double check things, install my new twitter plugin since the script I’m using does not validate, fix minor CSS validation and then just enjoy.

I encourage all of you to wander the blog and let me know if anything seems out of sorts. I am not designing for IE6 on a personal level anymore, however if you do notice something glaring, like a float drop, let me know. That I will fix, but I am not catering to IE6′s ineptitude in rendering pngs anymore.

Tomorrow is the start of my real weekend, in which I will still be working. Hopefully most everything will be out of the way for Jinked and I can start building the new design for illvision.net.

I’m taking the rest of the night off. I definitely deserve it.

How was your last two days?

Feedback is love.

  1. This is the exact reason why I usually leave the CSS coding up to Anne. I handle the backend, she takes care of the frontend. It’s just too frustrating to try and support multiple browsers, especially if the pool of browsers use different rendering engines.

    I love the ISO.

When I build something from the ground up, I don’t have any problems cross browser, but WP themes are so intense with items nested inside items, nested inside items that it can be really hard to keep up with the styling. Oi.

We should get together sometime so you can impart your PHP and other programming knowledge unto my brain. I want to start doing more backend stuff.

      VISIT TIME!

  2. i like the new look, hon. ^.^ very schmick!

Ok, so most, well all, of this is over my head, but I really like the end result. Job very well done Nichole.

  4. I would be more than happy to share the knowledge I have. It’s not much, but I can show you tricks of how to figure it out.

Programming is a lot of fun. Especially if you like puzzles to solve.
