Major life change.

January 27th, 2010

This past Monday I resigned from my job. February 5th will be my last day.

Do I have another job lined up? No.

I am going to be an artist, living for awhile off my savings. I am going to write and read and fine tune my design. I am going to learn PHP. I’m going to be this uncaged soul, flitting from one thing to the next, wondering what new adventure will be around the corner.

Most importantly, I will be happy doing it.

I could fall flat on my face. I could totally come out of this broke. I could make nothing out of my writing. But you know what? I will have at least tried. I can at least say that at 27 I left my job to be an artist. To begin to realize my dream.

And to me, that means more than any amount of money whether it be one dollar or one million.

Everyone has been so supportive of me and my decision that it’s so amazing yet almost overwhelming. My friends, family and even my co-workers, all of you are so incredibly awesome. So loving. So… just there for me.

I love you guys. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Feedback is love.

  1. Congratulations, Nichole, on having the courage to take this step!

BTW, it kills me (and not in the “makes me laugh really hard” sense of the phrase) every time I see one of your posts with no comments… that little “Zero People Love Me” link. You are loved!!! Don’t forget it!

    • Aww, I know people love me. Offer a suggestion on what it can say instead!

      • Hmm… How about:

        - Nobody has been willing to speak up (yet).

        - Zero people have overcome writer’s block.

        - Zero people have tossed in their two cents.

        - Nobody has anything to say about this (yet).

        - Zero shout outs.

Hrm… That’s about all I could come up with off the top of my head. :)

  2. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! i’m really really excited for you :)

  3. Jill and I are happy for you!

  4. Congratulations Nichole. What an incredible and exciting adventure you’re setting off on. Good luck and I can’t wait to hear all about this next phase in your life. Quitting your job is a liberating and terrifying experience – good luck to you.

  5. Woah! I’m a bit shocked! Definitely support your decision. Love the new redesign!

  6. I think this is a totally awesome next step in your life! I’m so excited for you!!

    See you Saturday?

  7. You know (for a fact?) that I’ve done the exact same thing.

Well, you know how it turned out too, but this is about you. And you’re going to to rock this thing. Even though I gave you that frowny face, it’s a for my own selfish reasons.

I have a happy face on the inside deep down.
Plus you have to work out with me and see me in my yoga pants.

  8. I left my job last February and struck out on my own. It’s been a roller coaster, but you’ll find that if you have passion about what you are doing, you’ll enjoy being your own boss much more than you ever did being an employee working for someone else.

Best wishes for much success as you go forth with your new endeavors.

BTW, My colleagues and I might have the need for an artist to design some logos in the near future. Email me for more details.

  9. Wow! I just came across your blog, AND your post. Congratulations. I am excited for you. If you ever need anything, gimme a shout. It is always refreshing to see someone follow a dream. Best of luck to you!

    Nichole,
WOW! I’m so incredibly happy for you. It must be such a mix of emotion taking that first step to set out on a new and wonderful adventure in your life. I’ll never forget the time you and I made guacamole at Evelyn Bay! That was such a blast, I had so much fun with you! You are truly gifted. I wish you nothing but the best. I’m quite sure you’ll do just fine. The best of luck to you!!

    • Hey, Nichole, maybe that’s something else you could do, along with your writing: guacamole! Or, you know, be a personal chef or something. You like to cook & prepare interesting foods, and there are probably people out there who don’t have the time or know-how to make good meals for themselves… Maybe there’s something there that would tap into another part of your creativity?

      Just a thought. :)
