STEM mentor training, movies, friends and family – Day 182
August 9th, 2010
This weekend was madness. I had STEM training with Discoveries Unlimited all day Saturday. It was fun, yet also prepared me for some of the excitement and possible… pitfalls? I don’t want to say pitfalls because that sounds odd, but with humans I guess you never know what will happen. Everything that day was made double-fun due to the fact that Kathy was there. I love me some Kathy. She’s always surprising me. Plus, there were a handful of new peeps I had the chance to meet. It’s always wise to befriend your fellow mentors. Who knows when I may need a bit of their wisdom.
Immediately after my STEM mentor training I packed up my things and drove out to Lowell to spend the night with my girls Colie and Bethy. It’s nice to rekindle friendships with those you had hung with in high school. We haven’t changed much, but I see that to be a wonderful thing. My friends were always great. Now we’re all just enhanced with age! They also make great popcorn, cake, rice krispie treats and the like. Clash of the Titans remake wasn’t all that bad, but I think it was enhanced due to company and circumstance. Hades’ entrances were always pretty swank. If I could enter a room the way he did, I’d be pretty smokin’. Haha, I slay me.
Sunday, since I was still in Lowell, I spent the day at my parents’ house, chatting, eating, catching up on this and that. Next weekend my brother will be in the area for a wedding, so having the whole family together for shenanigans is something always to look forward to.
Today I just wrote and edited Thirteen. I’m very slow when I edit, I think because I want things to be perfect. However, the more I look at something, the less I like it so there always comes a time where I just have to let it go, including not-so-great chapters of a story. I also came across a short story called “Will” that I was writing early in February. It has potential, so I want to finish it. Needs to be pared down from 7,000 words though. Made some zine packages for distro consideration, finished a small graphic design job, sang, journaled in my broken paper journal. A mighty productive day.
I want to get together with my friend Tracy one day and paint. I think it would be something fun to do.
